The gummies themselves provide an excellent fast-absorbing delivery system for cannabidiol by way of the gelatinous carbohydrate pectin which gives them their shape and texture. The CBD is easily digested and quickly absorbed. Most manufacturers don’t intend for the gummies to be eaten like candy but rather a supplement; making each piece the equivalent of a small to moderate cannabidiol dose that is less messy than tincture bottles when on the go. 

Endocannabinoid receptors line the brain, organs, nerves, and digestive system to regulate processes that include fertility, mood, pain sensation, sleep cycles, and, you guessed it, appetite. By helping to restore regular activity to the human endocannabinoid system, CBD for weight loss differs from most healing substances in that it improves the natural processes of the body, instead of interrupting them.

THC and CBD Affect Appetite Hormones

THC, the best-known compound in marijuana and hemp, can directly affect weight loss by acting on endocannabinoid receptors in the hypothalamus that stimulate the appetite. The body typically uses hypothalamic endocannabinoids, located in the brain, to control the level of the hunger hormone leptin in the blood. THC reduces leptin levels, creating a desire for food. Similar research has found THC also increases the pleasure and flavor of meals. 

CBD oil for weight loss works just the opposite in published research models by keeping these hunger hormones in check. A study published in a 2011 issue of Pharmacology, Biochemistry, and Behavior found CBD affected the neurotransmitter serotonin in relation to the subjects’ ability to control their food intake. The report was particularly promising because neurotransmitters can be thrown off by anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, and exhaustion–all complicating factors when it comes to losing weight. On days that are already stressful, using CBD could prevent you from reaching for the junk food that you know will hurt you in the long run.

Multiple Studies Have Found CBD Improves Anxiety and Stress Management

Lifestyle can quickly become the most significant cause of anxiety for busy Americans. Expectations at work, trouble sleeping, rising housing costs, student loans, and constant advertisements all add to stress that often manifests as anxiety. Many of us stress-eat to either distract ourselves from things that are causing anxiety or gain control over something when we feel out of control. 

The results of chronic stress, such as unwanted weight gain, high blood pressure, and hypertonia, can then become a source of anxiety themselves, creating a vicious cycle. Because CBD can help the neurotransmitters throughout our body maintain normal function versus spiking in response to each trying event, cannabidiol may help you hold up under high stress. 

In the 1970s, Antonio Zuardi, a neuroscientist at the University of São Paulo, wanted to know how cannabidiol affected mental wellbeing. He measured increases in heart rate, blood pressure, and skin conductivity in volunteers who feared public speaking to see if it could affect their anxiety. He found that a 600 mg dose diminished their nervousness and improved their vital signs. 

Yasmin Hurd, the director of the Addiction Institute at Mount Sinai, published similar findings in the October 2015 issue of the journal Neurotherapeutics. She hoped to discover if CBD could reduce drug-seeking behavior in her patients. Dr. Hurd found cannabidiol promoted sobriety by reducing anxiety. She noted that pharmaceutical anti-anxiety medications are often addictive themselves, and CBD was a dynamic way to break that cycle. 

Poor Diet Can Cause Pain, Inflammation, and Soreness

Many struggling with general pain and soreness don’t realize they could be symptoms of chronic underlying inflammation caused by what they are eating. Thousands of people get hooked on addictive pain medication each year without ever considering their diet. We’ve all heard of anti-inflammatory foods but don’t make the connection between food and health conditions. 

The connections are very real. Too much sugar and Omega 6 fat produce inflammatory chemicals that can lead to disorders like arthritis, fatigue, depression, migraines, and metabolic syndrome (pre-diabetes). Extra weight also puts accelerated wear and tear on joints which develop arthritis as they degrade.

Scientists have known for decades that excess body fat acts as an additional estrogen producing endocrine organ. Too much estrogen is associated with depression, fatigue, irritability, and joint pain. A 2012 study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology even found a correlation between breast cancer, obesity, and high estrogen. 

CBD may help combat many of these complications to weight loss. A 2017 study published in the Pain journal found that cannabidiol prevented both pain and nerve damage in rats with osteoarthritis in their knees. A similar study the previous year published in the European Journal of Pain found that CBD reduced inflammation and pain in subjects with arthritis. Since a symptom of arthritis is soreness, which discourages exercise,  this is another avenue by which the cannabinoid can aid weight loss.  CBD weight loss stories abound. 

Gummies Are a Sophisticated Delivery System 

So as you can see what sounded like a silly question had much more to it. CBD can help the complications of a poor diet in more ways than one. I think science will soon prove that cannabidiol is one of the first real lifestyle drugs, a tool for maintaining consistency and longevity. CBD gummies for weight loss won’t burn the fat off, you have to do that yourself, but the unique cannabinoid sure can help.
